What Galactic Geckos is
Nothing. Start here if you have never heard of this project.
What you will get out of this
- What the collection is and when it was minted
- Who drew it, credited by name
- The four factions, and what a faction is and is not
- The sister collections, and which of them have mechanics
- How decisions actually get made here
Galactic Gecko Space Garage is a hand-drawn collection of 10,000 geckos on Solana, minted on 22 September 2021. Each one is assembled at mint from a shared set of traits, so no two are the same.
The lore is short. In the far distant future war has ended, and conflicts are settled by hiring gecko mercenaries to race for the fate of the cosmos.
The four factions#
Every gecko belongs to one of four factions, and you can read it off the background colour. Red is Barada, green is Martu, violet is Alura, black is Targari.
A faction is a visual and lore grouping rather than a team you pick. Which one you hold changes nothing on its own, though a complete set of all four counts towards G8+.
Each faction has a leader. These four hold ranks 1 to 4. Their on-chain trait metadata is intentionally empty, because each one is bespoke 1-of-1 art rather than a combination of the shared trait set. They are not untraited or incomplete.
The artist#
Every gecko was drawn by one person, Gossip Goblin, a self-taught artist with a distinct style and collections across several blockchains. Often around in the Discord, and answers if you ask nicely.
The sister collections#
GGSG is more than one drop. Here is what exists, how big it is, and where the live mechanics are.

How decisions get made#
Ownership changed hands early. GGSG's original founders were bought out in February 2022 by GenuineArticles and a group of community members, and the Gecko DAO took over the project's IP, properties and accounts. The project runs on a hybrid DAO model: a small core team building day to day, 50+ community builders, a weekly builder town hall and a weekly community X space, all open through Discord. It stays community-focused without running on token votes - decisions get made rather than lobbied over.
There is one deliberate gap in that. The day and time of the town hall and the X space are not published here, because no fixed schedule is established. Ask in Discord rather than relying on a stated time.
Where the numbers live#
Every figure in this chapter is dated and sourced on the facts page, which is the page to check if you are researching us rather than reading us. Words this project invented, like CRED and journeys, are defined in the glossary.
